LQA Best Practices, January 2016 Zurich

Place: Zurich Marriott Hotel, Switzerland
Time: Wednesday, 27 January 2016, 1.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., from 5.30 p.m. onwards: networking event with dinner buffet

Topic: Error categories and KPIs: workshop with practical myproof® examples

Workshop and networking event on the day before the LQA Symposium 2016 Zurich.

myproof® is a workflow system for evaluating and correcting translations, whose system components allow proofreaders and quality managers to apply a multi-dimensional checking concept. Text-related error categories and the output of key performance indicators constitute two main elements of the system.

Interested parties and users have the opportunity to get to know the system components in practical examples. The objective is to present procedural, but also critical and sensitive aspects of quality assurance and to show how the introduction of performance indicators in the quality assurance of translations can gradually be implemented in one’s own translating environment.

AGENDA

From 12.30 p.m. Reception

  • Registration and welcome

1.30 p.m. – 2.30 p.m.: Defining effective error categories

  • The following issues will be discussed: With which error categories do the processes remain efficient and operable? Which possibilities exist for the sub-classification and weighting of errors? Which scaling make sense? Which benefits do the relevant standards offer?

2.30 p.m. – 3.30 p.m.: The role of the proofreader. The methodology of checking and evaluating

  • Different evaluation methods based on concrete examples will be presented. The main focus will be on the “Proofreader Guideline” as a supporting instrument as well as the “Error Matrix” as the heart of the quality assurance process.

3.30 p.m. – 4 p.m.: Coffee break

  •  break with coffee and snacks

4 p.m. – 5.30 p.m.: Controlled processes for translation quality assurance

  • Introduction to the systematic quality assurance of translated texts with necessary and optional process steps, based on framework conditions such as the number of words to be translated, time targets and document types. Performance indicators (KPIs) not only enable the monitoring and observance of quality specifications, but also an optimised supplier management system. The attendees have the opportunity to evaluate their own processes and to apply the new approaches to existing processes, and to test their practicality with the aid of the imparted QA elements.

From 5.30 p.m.: Get-together with buffet

  • Sharing know-how and experiences in anticipation of the LQA Symposium on the following day.

The myproof® team will moderate the Workshop and will be present to answer any questions. The event is hosted and sponsored by myproof®.
