Place: Zurich Marriott Hotel, Switzerland
Time: Thursday, 28 January 2016, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Topic: Language as Risk: Managing Translation Quality

The slogan of this year’s LQA Symposium to take place in January 2016 in Zurich is “Language as Risk: Managing Translation Quality”. It will bring together senior representatives from large global companies, state institutions and international organisations in order to exchange ideas and compare experience in the fields of Translation Management and Quality Assurance.

This exclusive network offers experts and leaders the opportunity to discuss current challenges and practical solutions from the viewpoint of their own industrial sectors in an open atmosphere.

The annual LQA Symposium allows executives from international language departments to exchange ideas relating to the key topic of Quality Assurance and to explore current issues from different perspectives among themselves and with experts from international organisations and scientific institutions.

In-depth discussions offer participants an opportunity to gain an insight into the Quality Assurance strategies used in translation processes and products. They will also obtain an overview of the state-of-the-art technologies and new developments in this field. The ability to share expertise in an open atmosphere not only provides an impetus for identifying current challenges, it also forms the basis for the development of new ideas for common standards, innovative concepts and strategic partnerships.

Keynote Speaker:
Sigrun Gehrig (IBM), Head of Translation Service Center Germany,
will be speaking about the tense relationship between automated and human-controlled quality assurance and the risks involved with strategic language decisions, as well as other issues.

Dr. Rebekka Bratschi, Language Service of the Swiss Federal Chancellery,
will be speaking about the specific challenges of legal texts and the quality assurance parameters used by the Language Service, as well as other issues.

Participants in Zurich will deal with the following questions:

  • Is it possible to measure quality? Answers from theory and practice.
  • How are efficient terminology creation and validation processes developed?
  • How can TM maintenance be implemented in a practicable manner?
  • Which workflow components enable translation quality assurance?
  • Which methods allow the post-editing of machine-translated texts?

The Symposium is an exclusive platform for industry leaders to discuss cutting-edge innovations, technologies and concepts from the field of LQA. Participation is therefore by personal invitation only.

On the day before the LQA Symposium 2016 Zurich, the LQA Best Practices 2016 Zurich will take place.
